My name is Laura Martin, and for the past 16 years I've led design teams and projects through all phases of the design cycle, across mobile, tablet, and desktop experiences. I've established and maintained stakeholder relationships, spearheaded multi-team initiatives, and mentored junior designers. I've conducted usability testing, user interviews, and heuristic and accessibility evaluations. My specific competencies include design leadership, mentorship, and interaction design.
I currently work as a Senior Program Strategist in Amazon’s Customer Service team, where I orchestrate strategic document creation, goal setting, and diversity, equity, and inclusion annual planning for a team that represents 80%+ of the operations. Before that, I served as a UX Manager in Customer Service, were I led a team of 6 UX designers and directed the high-level design vision for 3 end-to-end digital experiences across 4 lines of business. When I first joined Amazon, I redesigned the Customer Returns experience on mobile and desktop platforms, leading the project through user testing, requirements definition, stakeholder engagement, ideation, implementation, and initial desktop launch. After that, I led a design team of 1 designer, 1 researcher, and 1 writer to redesign the experience for returns associates in returns centers.
Before Amazon, I designed at Citrix Online, most recently as a mobile lead. For that role, I crafted mobile experiences for GoToWebinar iOS and Android, GoToMeeting iOS, Android and Windows Mobile, and GoToMyPC for Android tablet apps. I established design critique sessions for the mobile design team, mentored mobile designers, and encouraged a healthy balance between native and custom design. The beginning of my Citrix career focused on GoToMyPC, where I designed the initial offerings for GoToMyPC for Android tablet GoToMyPC for Mac, and the Marketing website. Prior to joining Citrix, I spent two years with Ford's internal usability team where I served as an interaction designer, accessibility evaluator, and user researcher.
I received my Masters in Human-Computer Interaction from Carnegie Mellon University shortly after completing a dual degree in Information Systems and Human-Computer Interaction with a minor in Technical Writing.
